A close friend has recently not stopped raving about her stylish, new Warby Parker eye glasses. As someone who purchases glasses from my lifetime optometrist’s office, I was interested when I found out that she had purchased her prescription glasses online. For this week’s Challenge Tuesday, I’d like to highlight Dave Gibloa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, who has overcome the challenge of transforming a traditional in-store shopping experience into an appealing and convenient online shopping experience.

Challenge: Transform a traditional buying experience, such as purchasing prescription eyeglasses in store, trying them on and customizing the fit, into a preferred online shopping experience.

Solution: Gilboa and his team created a business model that would allow shoppers to order up to 5 eyeglass frames to try on at home for a week, with free shipping on both initial orders and return items. For this business model to work, a customer has to submit his prescription information into the system before checking out with his chosen frames. Previously, this required two domains and delays in the check out process of up to 6 seconds.

Now, with a flexible and customizable E-Commerce platform, Warby Parker is able to seamlessly integrate both processes into an efficient and optimized check out experience. Magento Enterprise Edition, the open source E-Commerce technology platform, gives the team “full functional control over the customer experience”. Not only are customers able to check out quicker, but Warby Parker is also able to obtain useful analytics data from information collected during check out.

All future enhancements to the online store will require minimal development time with Magento Enterprise, giving Warby Parker the ability to quickly improve site functionality and customer experience as they continue to grow as a company.

As an open source Storefront Management System, SalesWarp integrates with Magento to give retailers complete control over all of their E-commerce operations through a single consolidated software platform.
